Services available
SATRA has probably the most comprehensive range of physical and chemical tests available in the world for footwear and footwear materials.
We can test all types of materials used in footwear, including uppers, linings, threads, insoles, adhesives, soles and heels as well as components and grindery. Tests include properties such as strength, durability, colour-fastness and flexibility. SATRA's experts will advise which tests are required to determine if a material is suitable for a specific shoe style.
No matter how good the properties of individual materials or components, it is essential to evaluate the performance of the finished product. SATRA has an unrivalled range of tests for complete shoes and parts of shoes. These include tests for sole attachment, seam strength, strength of straps, flex resistance and water resistance.
Our unique biomechanical sole abrasion test will accurately predict the durability of a shoe sole in a few hours.
SATRA can undertake tests to determine if footwear will be safe in service. We determine strength of high heels and security of heel attachment. Our state-of-the art slip resistance test for shoe soles is acknowledged world-wide as an indicator of shoe sole safety; furthermore it is designed to meet the slip resistance requirements of the latest EN standard for industrial footwear.
We can evaluate all types of footwear from everyday shoes to high performance products.
We can determine presence of restricted substance in footwear and footwear materials.
SATRA tests safety footwear to national, European and international standards and is a European Union Notified Body for Personal Protective Equipment.
