We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated mechanical design engineer to join our small technical team responsible for the design & development of electro and mechanical test machines.

The key responsibilities of the role will be to:
• Utilise CAD (3D Inventor) for modelling and detailing of new and existing products;
• Design and implement cost-effective equipment modifications supporting the continuous improvement targets of safety; reliability, cost and throughput;
• Ensure conformance to legislative and test method requirements;
• Work within multi-functional teams from all areas of the business
• Develop, test and evaluate theoretical designs;
• Recommend modifications following prototype test results;
• Build constructive and value-adding relationships with the manufacturing area, other departments within SATRA and all third parties;
• Manage projects using engineering principles and techniques;
• Through conscientious design and development contribute to the integrity of the departments documentation from specification to user instructions;
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
• Educated to degree level or equivalent in Engineering
• Experience of utilising 2D and/or 3D design systems using Inventor;
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to work from first principles;
• Professional customer service experience and demonstrated commercial awareness;
• The ability to work under pressure with strong planning, time management, prioritisation and organisation skills;
• The willingness and ability to travel if required;
• A background in lean manufacturing with a passion for excellence.

Knowledge of the footwear, automotive or other related markets would be a significant advantage; as would experience of testing equipment and testing techniques.

We are looking for a part-time communications officer for a varied role working on press release, articles, promotional materials and other corporate information. The role sits in our busy media & communications department. You will be working directly with trade press, as well as SATRA’s own editors, designers and commercial managers, so you will need to be a confident, highly organised, self motivated team player with ability to work on own initiative. You will be required to grasp technical concepts quickly and produce compelling communication for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with a track record in publicity and communications in similar roles.  We are also willing to consider a graduate with a relevant degree and a proven interest in media and communications. Candidates that also have digital media and marketing experience will be at an advantage.

The role is 20 hours per week, preferably over three consecutive days.

Starting salary is up to £22,209 pro rata (£11,845 actual) depending on experience.

We are seeking a talented, multi-skilled individual with experience of industrial engineering and method study. The ideal candidate will also have a working knowledge of footwear manufacturing and production techniques.

The key elements of this role include:

• Installing SATRA software systems and training customers to use them.
• Providing production consultancy to member factories and advising on improvements.
• Understanding lean manufacturing principles and capacity planning.
• Providing an analysis of current processes using factory simulation tools, data analysis etc.
• Developing relationships with customers and potential customers
• Liaising with internal programmers regarding any software problems identified and suggesting potential upgrades and improvements.

In addition to the above, to be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, a good level of computer literacy with experience in installing and using software packages and an ability to think laterally.

Due to the nature of this role you will be required to travel overseas and need to commit to up to 20 weeks international travel per year and be comfortable with working independently.

Salary: £25 - £28K (DOE) plus benefits, and travel payments
