Planning a line with Q
Our latest system, Q, is a line balancing and simulation tool for lean manufacturing. It will save you money by optimising your planning and production. Q can be used to plan and simulate linear production lines for any manufacturer in any industry.
The goal of any line should be to move work through as quickly as possible, while keeping production costs and work-in-progress to a minimum. Q helps you achieve this goal.
Optimally balanced lines have always been impossible to design without the use of advanced mathematics and complicated computer systems. Q provides the advanced mathematics, but with a simple interface that anyone can use. It will find the best solution quickly, without requiring the user to have detailed knowledge of the underlying concepts.
Q automatically designs optimal production lines by calculating maximum possible throughput while minimising the number of people and machines required.
The system provides an initial layout before production starts. If you have staff performance data for different jobs, it will tell you exactly who should work where.
There is a clear visual simulation of the line, allowing you to see simply and quickly where additional training for individuals will improve line performance as a whole. Conversely, it highlights why improving some workstations in isolation will have absolutely no effect on overall performance.
You can discover whether your production targets are realistic, and let Q design the lines required to optimally achieve those targets. The calculation of maximum possible daily production means that accurate delivery dates can be quoted.
Q will identify your bottlenecks: the key processes through which optimum workflow must be planned and maintained. If you make improvements, Q can identify the new bottleneck. It will show you that sometimes, if you select the correct people to train, even small improvements can mean fewer resources are required to achieve the same targets.
You will save time and money by simulating ‘what if’ scenarios. These show what will happen before any actual changes are made to the line. Q can illustrate how machine failures will affect workflow and thus allow you to prioritise repairs.
Lines can be rapidly redesigned to respond to changes such as machine breakdowns and unscheduled staff absences.
Q is licensed to the user. We include support via telephone and email, subject to an annual customer care contract. All software releases within the same version number are free, and licensed users are encouraged to make requests for new features which may be incorporated into future releases. Q is available in two packages: Q and Q+. Some of the features are only available in Q+.
