New Features in Version 8

VisionStitch 8 provides significant advances over all previous versions with improvements to both the hardware and software.

Improved Hardware

The hardware has been completely redesigned. Previous versions required two keypads — these have been combined into a single simplified, more responsive keypad. There is a new digital sensor and a new system box. The box can be fitted inside a PC (not included) and is connected via a standard USB port, keeping the number of external cables to a minimum. The remaining cables are now covered in a protective casing to minimise wear and breakages. The handwheel tape is harder wearing and will last longer.

Self-Calibration

One of the most noticeable enhancements is the introduction of self-calibration. It is no longer necessary to count stripes and risk mistakes when setting up a new machine. Just attach the tape, press the treadle and VisionStitch calibrates itself.

Sensor alignment is also much simpler.

Greater Accuracy

Improvements in the hardware have led to improvements in the software. A greater level of accuracy can now be achieved when recording traces.

Trace A was created with VisionStitch 2004. Trace B, simultaneously recorded with VisionStich 8, shows far more detail with its squarer-looking trace.

Better Comparisons

The comparison of improvements made, as multiple jobs are stitched, has been enhanced. Both the percentage differences and the actual time saved are shown. The number of stitches in each component and the number of stops during stitching are also displayed.

Optimal Display Mode

VisionStitch has always provided various display modes for analysing traces. It will now automatically choose the optimal mode for critical operations such as recording.

Pre-Handling Time

New functionality makes it possible to record time for operations prior to stitching, such as laying out work.

Optional Handling Times

Handling times are now optional. This is useful in lean manufacturing where stitching can often arrive one piece at a time. It enables you to compare stitching and manipulation times alone.

Improved Machine Diagnostics

The Machine Diagnostics section has been expanded to include three functions:

  • Start/Stop — tests the starting and stopping ability of machines, including automatic functions such as back tacks
  • Speed — tests the speed of machines
  • Control — tests how controllable different machines are.

Simplified Security

In areas where system security is required, it has been simplified. There are still two security modes — user and supervisor — but now you simply enter your password and VisionStitch will provide access at the correct level. Basic users only see what they are permitted to see.

Clearer Training Results

The display of training results has been enhanced and combined with the targets into one easily understandable section. Exercise details and pictures are more readily available.

VisionStitch 8 also includes:

  • Version 9 of the Advantage Database Server software, for even greater speed and stability
  • An enhanced user interface, including side tabs for rapid access to the main functions and rapid scrolling using the onscreen ‘page peeler’. Options which were only available from the menus are now presented as buttons
  • Improved instructor options which make demonstrating exercises much easier. New exercises, with the correct balance between ‘easy’ and ‘hard’ ratings, can be created with less effort
  • Enhanced routines to minimise chances of data loss in the event of power failures
  • Improved editing facilities, allowing the user to choose whether to cancel or save changes
  • The ability to check speeds at a glance, with the introduction of a new speed line which can be dragged up and down the recording screens
  • The option of adding multiple pictures to batches
  • The ability to add a picture to the user’s own exercises.

With many other smaller improvements, VisionStitch 8 is our most advanced version of the system so far.
